Minden is a small unincorporated community located in Washington County, Illinois, United States. It is situated along Illinois Route 15, approximately 2 miles east of Nashville, the county seat of Washington County. The community was named after Minden, a city in Germany. The first settlers arrived in the area in the 1820s, and the village was founded in the 1850s. Today, Minden is a quiet community with a few businesses including a gas station, post office, and several small shops. It is also home to the Minden Cemetery, which is over 150 years old and serves as a final resting place for many of the area's early pioneers. Minden is surrounded by beautiful rural countryside and is known for its scenic drives and outdoor recreation opportunities such as hunting, fishing, and hiking.
